Mrs. George Washington Stanley (neé Clarissa Nichols, 1793–1873) je kreirao Unknown in 1840. Gotovo 180 years old original creation was made with the size: 34 x 27 in (86,36 x 68,58 cm). Oil on canvas, mounted to wood or panel was applied by the painter as the medium of the artwork. Nowadays, the work of art is included in the Galerija umjetnosti Univerziteta Yale collection, which belongs to Yale University and is the oldest art museum of a university in the western hemisphere.
