The existence of the Innocents cemetery dates back at least to the Middle Ages (the discovery of Merovingian sarcophagi attests). It had the shape of a parallelogram including the longest length between the streets Irons (current Berger Street) and the ironwork and the short sides between Saint-Denis and Lingerie (now Rue Pierre Lescot).
