This oil sketch showing St. Peter's Basilica in the distance was painted during the artist's stay in Rome, 1777–85. Its spontaneity and freshness is typical of the artist's outdoor paintings, in which he sought to capture the light and atmosphere of Rome.

In 1784 slikar Pierre Henri de Valenciennes made the 18th century artpiece Pogled na Rim. Umjetničko djelo je oslikano veličinom od Uokvireno: 30 x 49 x 4,5 cm (11 13/16 x 19 5/16 x 1 3/4 in); Neuokvireno: 19,5 x 39 cm (7 11/16 x 15 3/8 in) i slikana je tehnika oil on paper, mounted on board.
